    Hi,

I am finding it quite difficult to price work. For example here is a piece I wrote:

How much would you expect to charge for a piece like this? I would like to think that it is quite a thorough article, well research and 1700 words.

    Thanks for your help

An article like that should be absolute minimum 17.00, but I would think more like 35 to 45 would be more appropriate.

This is of course assuming that it is 100% original and unique

Price your work by how much it's worth to YOU. Take into consideration the time, research and experience behind the article and price accordingly.

100% agree, how much do you think it's worth? If you are genuine with your pricing you will find the work but don't fall into the $0.01 a word trap for "easy, quick" cash.

I think the country you live in plays an important part because you have to identify any livings costs which may be higher in your country then someone charging $X per word etc. Everyone is different.

you may also take some research about the pricing of some content.
there's a lot who offer the same services, you can ask them for some ideas. :)

Hmm... If that were my own article, I wouldn't be selling it for less than $60. Of course, my writing would show improved punctuation and humor :D

I don't need an article on Parrots, so I don't know what I'd pay. ;)

Honestly, it depends on the meat. I don't care if you can write close to perfect. If you can't craft a good "story," then the article is worth little.

Looks like you've covered the topic well (just scanned it).

While it's about 1700 words, as a buyer, I'd look to see how much fluff it had and deduct the value accordingly.

Still, you can figure $17 on the crack-whore end and go up from there. It's less about word counts and more about industry and usage. For instance, a 1,700-word article about doggy poo pick-up services might command $50-$100. But a 1,000 word article for the medical or financial field (pro level) might command $200-$1,000 (depending on usage, depth and quality).

In the end, as was said multiple times, you are the one that prices your work. How long did it take you? Price according to your time.

Let's take the $60 figure above--that's about 3.5 cents per word. If it took you three hours to complete that task, you'd be paid $20 per hour. Is this enough? If yes, there you go. If not, you need to charge more.
