Pricing for links

    Hello.

I'm owner of a fairly young web directory. I am spending quite some money lately for promotion and I'm keeping it updated (recently added DeepLinks and link Thumbnails).

My current PR is 0 and I've some questions that I would like you, dear DP members to answer me :)

First, From what PR should i require payment for regular links? and how much should it be?
Secondly, any idea when is the next PR Update?
Third, what's a fair price I should charge for parmanent regular, featured and sidewide links on a PR3,PR4,PR5,PR6 Web Directory?
Finally, How much would it help me to increase my PR and Uniques by buying a link on a PR6 or PR7 Directory?

    Thank you,
    Adam.

Start asking for a small payment now, to keep the spammers out. Make a post in solicitations and only accept the quality sites. Continue spending money and being active here.

Don't ask too many questions at once, it puts people off replying ;)

If Google continues its recent pattern, the next update of Public PR should occur at the end of this month, possibly between July 24-31, but no one can predict this for sure.

As for pricing of links, I'm not a directory owner, but I've recently been submitting to some directories, and I have noticed a lot of variation in prices. After the next update, I suggest that you look at other directories with the same PR (on the category pages) as your directory and use that as a general guide.

If your site is PR0, but you expect PR5 i would do this.

Start off with about $15 for a regular link. That allows you to earn some good revenue, which you can spend on the site.

When or if you get PR5, i would raise the price to around $30.

I'm spending all the money I get from the directory on advertising it and for paid links on high PR sites.
However, I'm not sure if it will be PR5 in the next update, the directory is fairly new and I saw posts where people said it's needed 4-8 months to get PR5 or PR6 for a directory and a $xx,xxx budget.

Reading this I'm thinking www.mainsearches.com is to cheap.

Hopefully the PR update is only 2-3 weeks away, you just never know with big G.

Depending on how many links you have in your directory you might want to allow some free listing to help start you off, maybe limit free submissions to 1 or 2 per category?

Anyway good luck with your project.

As for the price of a link on different PR Directories, be more bothered about the PR of the page your link is going to be on, as opposed to the homepage PR.

    Thanks Brian

Probably taking the "no-follow" of phplinkdirectory link is a good move.

The links will be a lot more valuable and a lot easier to sell if you remove the Nofollow tags.

P.S. I just checked your directory, and it looks like the Nofollow tags may already be removed.

Look at the source code. Here is an example:

    <a href="page.html" rel="nofollow">PAGE</a>

    <a href="page.html">PAGE</a>

The first link has a nofollow tag. The second link doesn't have a nofollow tag.

P.S. I looked at a couple of the listings in your directory and didn't see any nofollow tags, so they may already be removed.

    Thanks a lot.
I think none of the links have nofollow anymore now.

That's some questions you got there... When it comes to charging for links on a directory I think the best policy is to offer something unique. I've seen prices range from a few $ to 15$ but this all depends on PR, quality of directory, visitors, etc. In your case I think it might be early to start charging maybe when you reach PR6 or PR7 would be a good time.

Well, I think that I will start charging after the next PR update.
If they PR won't increase much, I'd probably stay still with free submissions.
How often does PR Update occur?

I haven't been keeping up with the PR thing lately but it used to be about every 3 months. Keep on receiving more links and creating a better Directory and only then start charging. Don't forget that there are many Directories so creating something that stands out of crowd isn't easy.

The public PR update usually occurs about every three months.

If you get to PR3 or PR4 on the home page, and PR1 or PR2 on the category pages, you should start charging a small fee. Then increase the fee every time the PR increases.

I know how to check PR of a website, but how to check PR of the category pages?
The directory is submitted to over 400 Web Directories, should that give me PR3 ?
