Hi, I'm relatively new to the industry, in fact, i just got my first Job. My client wants a website designing. Basically its a shopping cart website. 40 items or so per week. The client was referred to me from a previous place where i did a works experience placement. They told me just to use some ready made cart software and modify it to suit the needs of the user. Doing it this way, i believe i could do it in about a month or less. Now, i have absoloubtly no idea how much to charge or how to work out how much i should charge. Any idea's or guides? Thanks Dom
You can start charging them from US$20 per hour. You calculate yourself how much time it will take you to finish the job.
If its a business you want to get into, I say charge as less as you feel comfortable doing. Web design jobs mostly come from referrals (at least w/my esperiences) and without any viable websites in your portfolio, you won't get any work, or at least any quality work. Do it cheaply (in price, not quality), but don't give it away for free. Remember, you need to build up your portfolio.
