Does anyone know of, or have a list which notes down the average price for a .com through the years? Nowadays it's under $10, but what about 10-15 years ago?

Register your domain today for ten years and price will not change for the same period of time.

Some registrars offers you discounts if your register your domains for over 2-5 years and I remember there are two or three out there offering a special deal if your register your domain for 100 years, and serious registrars, not sure but I think Moniker is one of them.

I'm interested in how much a .com cost 15 years ago and how the price has decreased year by year.

I heard a podcast interviewing the guy that owns newyork.com and a bunch of others, He said he registered it back in 1998 and domains were $75.00 back then.

That's a good question. I'll have to watch this thread and see if anyone offers a good resource for this info. I, do not know of anywhere that gives the pricing history.

All I know if the prices for regsistrations have gone down considerably.

Originally they were free, you had to just do paperwork and such. Then it went to 100$ I believe (im a bit hazy in this area, might have been more at some point). This is all when verisign had netsol monopoly. Don't remember what year but verisign lost monopoly and other registrars popped up, went down to 30-35 I think and slowly declined until last year where verisign increased base price 7% from 6$ to 6.42 and will continue to do so (with icanns blessing because they are a spineless organization who give no compete contracts and enforce the status quo) for the next 10 years with many other registries following suit (com/net/org/info et al increasing prices) despite actual cost of these things if everything else in the technology industry is any indicator, costs go down over time.
