Hello, I recently got hold of an older computer, and had a friend upgrade it a bit. He put in a new CPU and newer (but still old) motherboard. The thing here, is that it only has 512 mb of ram. I need more. Everyone is telling me that DDr1 ram is allot more expensive nowadays, so what i want to know is how much will a 1GB of ddr1 RAM cost. I'm also wondering if it would be cheaper to buy a new mother board that supports DDR2, and buy DDR2 RAM for it, since DDR 2 is way cheaper. So, if you can help me out that would be great, cheers.
I think you should get it in around $50. My friend got it in around that much only. Depends upon the brand you buying.
The price for 1GB DDR RAM is also around $50 in my place. While 2GB DDR2 RAM is around $40. I recommend you to go with DDR2 as the RAM speed is much higher than DDR though DDR3 is always better choice in term of performance. - Dynashox -
Yes, ddr3 ram is cheapest among all, mainboard update may be the right choice. Some 2nd hand IT shops sell ddr1,2 ram with higher price than ddr3 here. (same capacity)
Keep an eye out on eBay (or whatever) for junked systems that might have DDR1. It could be cheaper to buy an entire computer than trying to find *new* DDR1. You might also want to check how much RAM your vintage motherboard can handle, and in what configuration. Old computers are cool
Just discover that DDR2 price still stand high recently as touring at some computers mall. Especially for Kingston 2G per piece with llife time warranty.
The prices of ddr1 are much higher then ddr2 cause of demand, maybe you can try to find some used ones cause they don`t tend to break so much.
