Price estimate on servers for a mini-facebook?

    What would someone be shelling out for monthly server cost for a facebook-like site that had approximately 50,000 members? Obviously many factors will determine the price, but what is the general range? High end, low end?

    Just get a softlayer.com server; dual core xeon, 4 gb; I have such a site running on 1 of those with 120.000+ members; runs fine. Costs are about $300/month.

    How long is a piece of string?

    Your question has so many "it depends" type of answers. If your 50,000 members are very active then you could need a cluster of servers.
