A friend of mine is selling his website, http://www.wowitemdatabase.com/ and I want to buy it but his asking price of 5k seems a bit steep for me.

His stats are 1k visits per day and growing. The site takes very little maintence... but still 5k for the site seems too much

What do you think a good fair price might be?

It's a custom script grabbing items from warcraft database

    Thanks,

Well in my book monthly revenue x 8-10 is the value of the site.
    So the site worth $1200 - $1500.
Then you may add some traffic price to that but its not going to be $3500 - $3800 for 1k visitors.

Hmm I think the site has great potential, so it might be worth 5k. I don't understand how he's only making $150 from it though. It already has a community formed around it and is a fairly reputable site, I bet it can be monetized for over $500/month with some ease. So I'd say, go for it.

I personally don't know the owner of the site, so I'm not backing him up for that. But like I said, I think it can have great monetization potential. I'm sure his asking price can be negotiated down a bit anyway. I think anything below $3,000 is a rip-off for a site with a formed community and the visitor count. I'll give you an example.

I would say 5k is a little to much.

It seems like a very new site. No backlinks in google. Seems to be some minor trouble with html design here and there.

where does the money come from. Link sales ?

Anyway I would say around 2k depending on traffic and stable income...

My World of Warcraft related website, www .epic-warcraft.com, which is slightly less popular than www. wowitemdatabase.com gets around 700 uniques per day, with an average impresion count of 2800.

For 1,000 visitors, the impression count would be around 4,000-4,500. With a CTR of 0.8% and an average PPC of 0,30, which is how my stats look, he would make around $10 per day, $300 per month. Just from AdSense, not including the coverage he would get for reviews on Clickbank WoW guides which can also be monetized quite well. So $500/month is not at all far fetched with a site like that. That is definitely worth around $3,000-4,0000 for the site tbh.

I say the site is worth around $1200-$1800. If you really like the site, then buy it for 5k. If you are buying it for business, $1800 is the max you should go for.

It's just the database part, not the forum. It's weird how he has it setup.

That's about what I figured... I like your site too Tudi, just the long term of it doesn't seem as good. Guides get out dated quickly, I know because I have 7 high traffic warcraft guide sites and I'm running out of content for them... which sucks..

Yes that's right kingbrend, the game evolves at a fast pace and I constantly find myself modifying my written guides instead of making new ones. I'm hoping for a rush when the next expansion comes along because the guides will be more stable then (I hope).

What I'm planning to do with my site is create a forum and hopefully build a community that could help me correct the content with ease :)

there is a lot of competition right now that has good ground. I would say that the site is worth no more than $2,000 as is due to its lack of innovation, design and current income and traffic levels.

If you were able to find away to do something that thottbot, wowhead and allakazam don't do to bring in a new audience then the site would be worth more.
