I have been wondering if I'm going to have a legal issue with a previous business partner and was looking for some insight into the situation. I will start from the beginning... About 8 months ago a friend brought up the idea of creating phone apps and I thought this would be a good thing to get into so I agreed and we started thinking about ideas for apps. After several days of debating what we would create I remembered this idea that I've had floating around. I presented the idea to him and we agreed this is what we would shoot for. However Instead of a phone app I suggested first starting with a website. This was agreed upon. We divided up the work to where he was to do a particular part and I was to do the rest. I then went on to accomplish the tasks I had assigned myself and was awaiting my partner to finish his tasks. After a couple of weeks of this waiting I contacted them and came to find out that they had done a very small amount of what was needed, and the content which they had create was not up to par with what i had imagined. Fed up with the waiting I took it upon myself to complete the other half of the project that they were suppose to finish. It has taken me several months to do everything by myself, but I am getting close to launching and this issue concerns me. None of their work has been used, everything has been created by myself, and I haven't herd from them (no phone call/text/email/im) in about 4 months now... I am just curious as to if this previous partner would have any right to what I have created? There was never any legal documentation drawn up during this project either. It's a messy ordeal and I was curious as to if anyone on here would be able to shed some light on the topic???
if there is no legal documentation then the business is yours. my suggestion put your effort to next level make your business success. if they fight for their right you will win it.
I wouldn't worry about it like the above post stated is there any legal documentation ? And even if he decides in the future to attempt to claim against you it's highly unlikely they will pursue it from past experience.
