many get banned by go on clicking on their own ads, google finds them and bans them from further adsense policies..use this easy way to prevent this. The way I keep this from happening is I temporarily block the domain name Google's ads are served from. Once I'm finished editing my site I go back under the hood and turn it back on. Getting this setup will take you less than a minute. First, find your HOSTS file. Open Notepad. Go to File, and Choose Open. If you have Windows 95, 98, or ME browse to the folder "C:\windows" If you have Windows XP Home browse to the folder "C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc" If you have anything else (Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000, NT, 2003, etc.) browse to the folder: "C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc" Once you're there, open the file called "hosts". If you don't see anything listed just type the word hosts and the file should open up. Just the word "hosts", no extension or anything after that. It's probably blank but it might not be. Add this line: 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com And save. You're done. Now go back to a site that you know has some Google Ads. There should be an empty space where the ads appeared. Want to turn it off? Don't just delete it, put a "#" sign in front of that line, like this: # 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com What's that do? It basically says "ignore this line." I like to leave it like that so when I want to hide Google Ads again, all I have to do is remove the "#" sign and save – then put the "#" back in when I'm ready to go back to normal. To me, making a quick change in your HOSTS file to turn AdSense on and off is easier than fiddling around with a firewall program. Hope this helps.
The way I keep this from happening is I just dont click my own ads.. I've been mucking with my sites for 2 years, and never 'accidentally' clicked one yet.. But had i done so, google knows and is aware that webmasters may accidentally click their own ads from time to time, and will automatically discount the clicks - no need to even notify Google about it.. You will not get banned for an accidental click once every 6 months.. you may however get banned for an "accidental" click 7 times per week. For me, turning ads off/on would be a pain because i always like to check my ad-targeting..
Absolutely true. I have never ever clicked my ads. I still dont understand how people repetatively make that mistake? anyways google has clarified than accidental clicks once in a while are ok but of course you cant click everyday saying its accidental Yes, google is smart at discounting those clicks.
i clicked on my ad only once accidentaly. guess what? google sent me an email saying they detected invalid click. it was just a warning letting me know.
The occasional accidental click is nothing to worry about. And I think the remodeled adsense format where less of the ad is clickable will make it even less likely that a webmaster who is fussing with his website and checking out changes will click on an ad by mistake. While I applaud the information provided. Unless you have a tendency in your mouse movements to land on ads when changing your sites, it is not worth the time to utilize this suggestion.
I dont see why google just doesnt put in a feature that automatically ignore any clicks from a specified ip address
I am going to go out on a limb and state that I am pretty sure that nobody EVER got banned for ACCIDENTALLY clicking on their own ads..
Thanks for this, it is going to help, I keep sliping so much, I don't want to get banned one bit. Green added.
It's a good tip but do that many people accidentally click their own ads and get banned? My belief was people were getting banned due to repeatedly clicking ads from the same location (pubilc library, internet cafe, university, business, city), not the same computer.
awesome tip, everyone should do this! Not only that but it also blocks google ads from other sites. That means more money for me hopefully.
