To get it into google or yahoo news is extremely difficult, unless you have worldclass news to share with others! If it's for an ordinary site, most likely not.

For benefits, of course there are many! Not only do you get exposure, but it may lead to great link bait (other bloggers may blog about it) and traffic!

it really takes an excpetion PR to get into google or yahoo.

Of course, even a mediocre press release does some good.

    1. Getting into Google news and Yahoo news is actually very easy. You can get into Google news for free by submitting a free release to a site like www.PR.com. Most sites make you upgrade your release to get into Yahoo news, but all you'll have to do is pay them the upgrade fee, and their releases will be picked up there.

    2. Sure there are benefits. That's the primary method of distribution to directly reach your audience (not including posting the news on your company site and/or blog, b/c that's not exactly "distribution" in a PR sense). However, don't submit a release if it's not truly newsworthy. Otherwise, you risk damaging your company / site reputation in the long run. People can spot crap news angles, and they don't like you wasting their time. They'll remember it if they keep seeing your releases out there, and they'll learn to simply ignore you in the long run.

hey Jenn ... thanks for diverting my attention to PR.com. well I also agree with "what" --- you can submit your press releases to free PR services online and if they're really good, google news will pick it up at no cost to you--- as far as i have read about these PR services they are quiet beneficial for the starting boost for any new site...

Also, don't forget to submit your press release to actual local newspapers. There are many success stories on here of people landing interviews with local media if your site/business has a unique or interesting angle.

I use a software program that submits my press releases to numerous PR sites online. As mentioned previoisly, do not be spammy or overhyped in the PR and don't submit them too much. I have never had a press release that didn't get picked up by several sites. This is another secret for FAST INDEXING.

It isn't that hard if you have an effective press release. Find someone with a good track record of being carried and be willing to pay for the best quality you can. A couple of PR submissions will go a heck of a long way if they are well crafted with an eye toward getting carried rather than keywords.
