Press releases

I have been trying to write one now for my website - www.bidzap.biz for 2 days now but I have no idea where to start, I have tried using a template but there is nothing much you can say about the site so I just end up repeating myself over and over again. Are they worth the trouble? Will submitting one to sites give me a significant increase in traffic or is it just a waste of time?

If you can't thnk of much to say about your site, then a PR is probably not a good option - you need a newsworthy angle for your press release.

I'm assuming your press release would be about the current Wii competition. The best thing to do would be to start off with an bold and impacting introduction of the Wii competition. Put yourself in the mindset of a news reporter writing about your site and it's benefits, and what the Wii is.

Just hire a PR writer, much easier to be honest.

If you have no news, you really have no reason to write a press release. And doing it just litters the Web with more garbage releases, and won't get you any quality results... yeah, you'll get a link on the PR site (which will get shoved to a non-PR archive page within a day) and possibly a bunch of quick links (usually from worthless scraper sites), but you won't get any legitimate coverage or many quality links if you honestly have nothing to say.

I wouldn't say a press release is your best course of action. If you were giving away a $100K diamond encrusted WII that would be newsworthy.

The concept is interesting though. My only "hmmm" comes from the fact that you don't have a street address or a telephone number. I think that would at least help build your credibility.

    Good luck!

I would recommend marketing with banner ads, industry-specific forum posts, and emails as ooposed to using a PR.

PR writing can be tough, it took me awhile to get used to the style (and I'm a degreed English major). But I certainly don't recommend using a PR if you don't have any *real news.

Press releases are a very good and prestigeous way to get featured in the news in some professional web media. But they are not eve an advertising campaign and it is hard to sell using them.
