I have looked in to press releases to promote my site and found them to be too expensive and hard to submit to. Plus I have know idea if a certain press release service will get results and there is no way to tell how long you will get traffic from a press release. I have tested some free press release sites only to find out that you have to pay. I would appreciate if if someone could recommend a truly free press release online services that work well with promoting a website.

Free.press-release.com is the only site I know that really offers free release. I agree that it is really expensive to submit a story to press release sites. The greatest benefit you can get from paid press release is the link (for SEO), but I doubt if traffic is one of the benefits.

Set up the Press Releases so you can easily cut and paste the release into the free press releases. I use TypePilot which is a macro program you just type a few keys and it inserts the corresponding text makes things really easy. I think Roboform does something similar.

There is a large press submission list that you might find helpful here: http://www.webmaster-elements.com/submit-press-releases.htm (the free submission sites are on the top)
