Evenin' folks, I have this story that will get all of the UK media in a tizzy. Unfortunately I have zero experience with PR and media relations. This thing will however catch most nationals attention and I'm looking to include the local papers in the news too. Now once I have the press release put together, could anyone suggest a way I submit and handle the communication afterwards when the calls come in? I don't want to sound over confident but I'm sure they will - I just aren't sure I'll be prepared or know what to do. I know many of you UK guys have experience in talking to the journalists/papers etc.. what can you suggest? Do you think it would be better I give someone else the facts after I submit the release and out-source the media relations work to an individual who knows their stuff or is it a simple question/answer thing the journalists want. Any help or insight appreciated.. Cheers, Pete
Just get all of your facts handy, and put as many of them as you can think of in the actual press release. Journalists are lazy/busy, so the more of your story that you hand to them on a plate, the better coverage you are likely to get. Have some photographs ready, if it's appropriate.
