    Where can someone submit a Canadian press release. One that will be picked up by soley Canadian news sites.

    Also use www.PR.com - if you're only using free distribution I find this one tends to get picked up first by Google news and such. If you choose upgraded plans, you'll likely get listed quicker using PRweb.com.

    I'm not sure why you'd only want something sent to Canadian press, axemedia. It's not going to hurt to use the major wires, as I'm quite sure Canadian media use them (as do media outlets all over the world). If the news is specific to Canada, media professionals elsewhere simply won't consider it newsworthy, and they won't pick up the story ... so it's not going to hurt you. If anything, you'll leave yourself open to even greater exposure and publicity. But...

    Is it worthwhile submitting a PR to multiple PR sites? Since they relay the message to all the same (or most the same) news agencies.

    Do the news collectors get annoyed by seeing umpteen copies of the same release come through the wire? Or, does ramming the message down their throat help it get picked up by more media outlets?

    You should submit to as many as you can, but I usually only recommend upgrading through one - usually PRweb. Depending on your upgrade level with them, and because there's a two-day lag time to get a release approved, they won't always be the first one to get you listed in Google News, Yahoo news, etc. If you only do 2, make the other one www.PR.com. It seems to get neglected in a lot of these lists passed around for some reason, but they let you have a more detailed company profile (include adding job postings) for free than most do, and they're the quickest free one I've seen for getting listed on the news sites. This is just speaking about free wires. If you really want to get the most attention, you should actually be using www.PRnewswire.com, or www.businesswire.com - the 2 most professionally recognized newswires by the media (hence not free, or even cheap). If you're really only targeting online media and bloggers anyway, the others should be fine. If nothing else, the more release services you post to, the more incoming links you can build quickly... while that's really not the point of a press release, it's an added benefit, and there's nothing wrong with ever getting it out to more people.

    If you want a journalist to read it and turn it into a newspaper article... contact the newspaper you want it in and email the journalist. Or got through associated press.

    Real newspapers and real news wire services don't charge you anything to submit your press release.

    As for how many to send it to, I usually just send it to one journalist exclusively or go through associated press.

    Your goal isn't to get a press release picked up by google newsbot. Your goal is to get the press release turned into a story by a flesh and blood journalist.

    I would agree with you in that they shouldn't have a goal specifically relating to getting picked up in Google, but unfortunately that's what most people do focus on (and yes, being a PR pro, that can make me crazy sometimes). So while I don't agree with pushing releases for that sole purpose, and while I do manual submissions for musicians and writers for example more often, for website owners the newswires really do make a significant difference. The reason that I find for this is simply that as PR professionals, it's our duty not to neglect any media source. Blogging has become such a huge alternative media source now, and the best way to reach these individuals (especially b/c most site owners don't know every specific blog with a decent reputation in their field) is using various newswires. I used to work for one of The NY Times Company's sites, and personally, that's where I (and many colleagues) would pull news information for blogs and even longer articles. Now I have a set of writers working with me on a content network that I would recommend the same to in a heartbeat. While manual submission is certainly ideal, it's not going to get them the best reach for what their goals usually are, they likely can't afford to have it done for every release they want to send out, and most probably don't have the time, experience, or know-how to work directly with the media themselves. Just my $.02.
