This is a good list. Are all these sites free?

Thanks for sharing the list. You could add prlog.org also to this list of press release distribution sites.

I've had good luck with prlog and freepressrelease. I sort of like freepressrelease the best because for only a $1 you can buy a link back to your site that google webmaster tools will count. However, it is EXTREMELY important that you bookmark the press release on about 25-30 major social bookmarking and blogging sites. In my opinion, press releases work best for new sites. When older sites do press releases, the page that they link too seems to receive a short term penalty in google because the press release takes greater importance until the promotional power of the press release loses its power.

A lot of times the difference is being included into Google News. That is key to a successfull press release submission. Most of the free PR sites do not submit your release to Google News and the ones that do usually strip your backlinks.

Most PR sites charge around $80 (prnewswire comes to mind) for Google News inclusion. I know of a cheaper way to get same day Google News inclusion! (hint hint)
