Currently going through congress (may or may not happen), President Bush is sending a bill that will allow the President to order the Nat'l Guard without governor approval in that state. This act was inspired by the recent Hurricane Katrina. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-08-05-national-guard_x.htm?csp=34 "The idea, spurred by the destruction and chaos that followed Hurricane Katrina's landfall in Louisiana and Mississippi, is part of a House-passed version of the National Defense Authorization Act. It has not yet been agreed to by the Senate." What people need to realize is that the governor of Louisiana and Mayor of New Orleans were the faulty part in the system, NOT the president. Bush can only do so much, particularly when the local government is to blame. Haha, see? They're ignoring what happened with Katrina to still try and blame it on the national government, when it's really the local govt's fault in that situation.
How did I know you would say that? You're kind of ignoring the fact that in times of national emergencies, the President should be able to execute his Executive power (hence the name, and branch of government)
In times of emergencies George Bush is busy sitting around reading books to kids. He's the last person on earth I'd want in control during an emergency.
In times of UNEXPECTED emergencies, yes, President Bush is busy working with and reading to the children of our country. What a crime
Yeh, and while those emergencies are happening and he's been notified, he continues to sit around not doing anything. Way to take control of emergencies!
What's he supposed to do? Run out of a room with 50 intensely-interested kids and tell them "Sorry, 300 people just died, I'll be back later" . ... or just tell his secretary what to do so things can be DONE (which is what happened), wait until the session is over (it's only like 10 minutes), or just not do anything at all.
At the time of the attacks, he was near the end of it anyway (less than 10 minutes left). Plus, he told his secretary/advisor/guard (whoever it was that informed him of the attacks) what his course of action was at that time.
Apparently that thought was too complicated for bush's big brains It was much more logical to sit around reading a book to school children than leading the country during a "terrorists" attack.
Actually, it was a nobel thing to do. Rather than upset, concern or disappoint the children with sudden scurrying, he waited a few minutes and went into action. BDS blurs the vision of the blinded, once again. Never a bad word for terrorists though.
