Yesterday afternoon, I sat down in my living room to watch the knock down drag out fight that major cable news networks had promised was coming when President Barack Obama showed up to give the commencement address at Nortre Dame University. Instead, I saw a group of polite young people that not only welcomed the President of the United States to their university - but they also made him feel right at home. Too many times, the major news media in the U.S. tries to start a fight when there is really no fight at all. I was so proud of Notre Dame University today and I was also proud of President Obama, who went out of his way to offer a vision of unity between the two sides of the abortion issue. There are major changes happening in U.S. politics and from my simple point of view these are changes for the better. For far too long, the people of the U.S. have been divided into groups of races, religions and pro and anti abortion forces.
Well said. I too felt the aura through the tv that Mr. Obama brought to Notre Dame. You could see it had a calming effect on everyone there! I was amazed to see how just his presence healed the rift, not only between those for and against abortion, but also between those of the Catholic faith and those otherwise religiously disposed. Just watching the event cause my heart to swell up with emotion, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sporting a bit of a boner. I look forward to the day when everyone will think the same way and we can put all remaining differences behind us! If we could just get the Jews and Arabs to sit down in the same room together with Barack, the problems that have plagued the middle east for years could be wiped away. There really is a bright future ahead!
