Hello, I currently work at a university and would like to add certain sites I've developed and maintained to my portfolio as examples of work I did while employed here. I am not looking for a new job or anything like that, but one day I would like to show prospective employers/clients WHAT I actually accomplished at my current job. Right now the university uses an expensive CMS and I anticipate several changes and/or upgrades each 1-2 years. With that said, what would be the most efficient way to preserve a working website? Here is an example: http://www.uh.edu/class/ccs/index.php If I wanted to host this particular site, at this specific point in time (Jun2, 2012) would I need to transfer all CSS and JS files along w/ all recreated, respective coded pages for each individual page into a folder on MY personal site? The lazy web person in me says "Screen shot!!!!" But I wondered if there is anyway to do this "easily".... since this is a CMS, there are no "files" to download per se. I hope this all makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time! AB
(I am sorry if i misunderstood your question) There are several ways you can preserve a website for later use. If you are allowed, you can download a copy of the whole website and keep it as a backup and install it somewhere else at a later time. Also you can you can download the whole website in .html format... i.e. the website downloader software would convert all the files into .html and link them up. For example, HTTrack Website Downloader could do this job. A full page screenshot would be okay if you want to keep it in the portfolio. But if you preserve the site I think you have to take the permission the university. Hope it helps
Do you anticipate looking for coding jobs or design jobs? Most web designers just include screen shots but I think you would need a working example to show programming ability.
