I was wondering is someone was doing both straight PPC and PPC + presale page? How do these compare? Does presale page help or hurt? It would be interesting to see some statistics. Ex. straght PPC EPC was X. Presale page made it Y% of X. I know that presale page can warm up the customer but on the other hand from working on online products as my day job I know that every click is a royal pain for the user so the more clicks between your ad and conversion the more users you'll loose along the way. Another point being made as that users consider reviews on merchant websites as biased and rightfully so. But wouldn't they consider reviews on a page that paid for them to get there (sponsored search results) also biased? I think that it's an interesting topic worth good discussion.
Here are two advantages of using a presell page: 1- It allows you to capture the email address by offering a free report, etc. 2 - It gets you around the Google Adwords one ad per domain limit.
That I understand but what I'm interested in is what is the bounce rate and how does it affect overall conversion rate. You are paying to google whether customer bounced from your page or not. Another though I have on presale pages is that if the customer does click though and doesn't like the product he will press the back button. In case of straight PPC he's back to SERP and your money for this click are done for. In case of presale page he's back on your page and he may try some other links giving you a second chance to get some ROI on this click. This is just a theory though. I would really like to hear some overall statistics from people who tried doing it both ways.
