Keep it short - dont give to much details.... try fit into one page, employers dont want to read a 4 page CV...trust me.

Absolutely right, you should prepare such a cv in which all things are mentioned like personal information, academic information, any experiences, skill, references, activities or hobbies etc.
Not go for either short or long, just try to keep it in the middle.

Short and Sweet is exactly that, i can fit it on the back of a stamp tho :)

Does having a fancy layout matter?

CV needs different style at different places e.g if your going to submit it for a job and it needs experience then you have to keep your experience first but if there is a need for education or your a fresh student then you have to mention your education background first.
