Preparing Your Marketing Plan

How different do you think preparing your marketing plan for a website is compared to a traditional business?? What are some points online businesses need to take into consideration?

And another thing... Approximently how much money do you invest (1st year, 2nd year) per visitor your aiming for?

Or do you just go with the flow?

    Thanks

A marketing plan for a website or online business won't be terribly different than writing one for an offline business if you do it right, as far as format and process go. The differences are in the details - how you describe and determine your target market(s), the marketing tactics you'll choose to use, etc.

Bingo, right as usual. Ive written marketing plans for both traditional and web-based companies and, like Jenn said, they are not too different. Take a look at http://www.mplans.com/ for samples, ideas, and more reading on the subject. ALWAYS right a marketing and business plan - even if its an online startup.

Same here, an itnernet marketing plan should not differ if you follow the benefitically principles of a marketing plan in the first place.

I've never done a marketing plan for an offline business but I don't see why it should be any different. The only difference that I see is that you don't acctually use the same marketing methods in online and offline world...

I’m also thinking of starting an online business and have been reading some articles about doing business on the internet. From what I gather it all depends on your product and who you trying to sell it to. Spending some money on advertising is crucial especially if you’re facing a lot of competition from other similar services.

The plans should not be different.. what is different is the execution maybe, but it is basically the same planning, I think. I'm new at this, though.
