Make a professional website and sell it from website.
Chose this because it will make your site look more high end and its more easy to promote.
And don't forget about the pricing, make it more affordable to increase sales.

Have you offered these on DP yet? It will be a great testing ground for you with pricing etc while finalizing your site.

    All the best

Make some good themes and have a really nice looking website thats easy to use.
Also like others have said your pricing is important, if you get it right your sales should rocket!
And have a fair few designs for people to have a look through.
    Best of luck!

I can tell you one way im trying to do the same. I only started a week ago with a live site (Still has some wrinkles but its getting there) I made a free version and a premium version ($15) of my first theme.

I then uploaded the free version to wordpress.org and its been downloaded 550 times already. I put some links in the "about" text file, giving people more details about the theme on my site. I have got quite a few click thoughs doing this and have seen my traffic spike because of this.

Obviously the other idea is that giving away a free version should give me loads of nice links coming back to the site.

If you do go the route of selling them from your own site I highly suggest setting up some form of an affiliate program. This will give you a working sales force, free advertising, as well as potential backlinks from all of the blogs that focus purely on advertising premium themes.

I think you should make a portfolio and show all your themes there and allow your customers to buy them via paypal and other payment methods.

You could also sell them on this forum ;)
