First, build a pre-launch list. Which means on launch day you have traffic ready to hit you

Form JV's..contact people with good lists on your topic

Tell your processor about it. If you use paypal, let them know it's gonna be a big day for you so they don't have to flag your account and examine it

Tell your web host and make sure you can handle the traffic

Make sure you do a press release and create buzz

    Have your tech guy handy

Make sure you do ALL your work before launch day. It's incredible when people try to do their work on or after launch day..for example, if you are selling a course that you email to them everyday..have the full course ready..not just 7 days of it.

If you're using a blog or whatever to drive traffic after launch, I'd write all the blog posts NOW and have them ready...

    Good Luck,
    - Ana

I would suggest to make a pre network of people those might be interested in your product through social networking sites. Also try out a press release.

Start putting on a pre-launch page and start getting people to opt in now!

Start giving away copies of a report (based on your product) at the site, forums, post and ask for comments on them. It'll be well received since its free and if you're giving away something of a certain quality.

You can also use this opportunity to build a nice list of testimonials, people who will be interested in buying and people who will be interested in promoting your product!

    Hope it helped!

One more thing re the contest: start with anticipation marketing (research how movies are marketed in the US) and offer a premium. Build a newsletter with all the leads so you can send them more info as your launch date approaches.

    Good luck!

I suggest you buy Product Launch Formula by Jeff Walker if you can afford. It contains all you need to know and much more about pre-launch, launch, post-launch and re-launch.

It contains too much information to write down in a forum post.

    You can find it at:
    http://www.productlaunchformula.com/special/

I bought it ~3 months ago and i highly recommended.

I'm actually writing an e-book on generating pre-launch buzz. Sorry it's not finished yet. :( The tips above are good ones. Just do what you can to get people talking. Word-of-mouth is your biggest friend in buzz-building. Without knowing more about the site, I can't really give you specific examples, but generally work a mystery angle, a controversy angle, or a transparent angle (telling them exactly what's coming, and why they should be excited about it).
