    Hi,

I am fairly new to PPC.

I have noticed when you create an ad, there is an option to select your preferred as position - I have used this a couple of times with high CPC (as I do not know how much is needed to get to a certain position) but with a preferred position of 6-9 so I am on page 1 but hopefully not spending anywhere near my max CPC. However it did not work as I was consistently at position 2-3 and wasting alot of money I didnt have.
Can anyone enlighten me as to how this tool works and if there is a way to make it work?!! It seems very useful on the surface.

As you say, this tool does seem very useful on the surface, although we have had problems with a few of our clients accounts. One of those problems prevented the adverts to be shown at all.

When you say that you were in position 2-3, are you sure there were more than 3 competitors at the time? For example, if your prefered position was 8 and you were the only competitor, you would still be shown in 1st position.

Another thing that may have been wrong, was whether you had the preferred position on the keywords that were in positions 2-3?
