Pre tag and surround text/images

I have source code in my posts that use the <pre> tag. This stretches across the full width of the content holder and so any text or images that are aligned to the left/right, are just placed above or below the source code block, so there is a white space gap there.

Check out what I mean here.

Any suggestions to get around this? I want the <pre> tag to still fill the full width when nothing is aligned next to it, like it does further down the post, but the social bookmarking links are aligned to the right and cause the block to drop down below it.

    Thanks for any help!
