The red is too aggressive, especially on LCD displays. The color works well in the text where it is less prevalent. But as a background may be just a little too much. Maybe a little less luminance or saturation? If you move to png, you can save those grey boxes with alpha transparency and consequently blend them better with any background. Conversely, you can save the images with a red background. My humble suggestions.
OK Nice site, i am still in development of my first site so don't take my advice too serously.. but imo from a deisgn point of view i would change the red background it's too bright, and also change that gradient you have behind the titles on the sidebar and behind "welcome" you can see the white on the corner edges and also the text jumps out of it on occasions. that's all i can provide you with my knowledge !! but nice site hope it goes well for you!!
