Do you have a legal question that you're not willing to answer by retaining expensive legal services? Now you have a great option!

Your legal question can be web related (CyberLaw) or not. If your aging uncle just had questionable medical treatment, I can help you decide whether he has a claim or not.

I am a law student at a Top 20 United States law school. Semester finals will be ending soon, and I will have some time to make a little extra money. I'm hoping to offer my skills and resources to you in order to make that money and give fellow DPers a very affordable option when it comes to legal information.

What I Will Need From You:
-A detailed account of the facts related to your legal question.
-Between $.05 and $.10/word, depending on the level of research I expect the project to require. This amount will be agreed to before I begin working.

What You Will Get From Me:
-ACCURATE legal information. I will tell you whether you can bring suit, where you could bring suit, the chances you could expect to recover, and how much you could expect to recover.
-A professional, top-notch piece of writing that you could bring to an attorney that will save him or her 8-10 hours of work that he or she would otherwise bill you for.

Just to be clear, you will be receiving a piece of legal writing that you can provide to an attorney that will cut down on the pre-suit research your attorney will need to do. Your attorney will doubtless want to check the accuracy and viability of my writing, and this should take him or her 2 or 3 hours. However, attorneys generally spend 8-10 hours researching a possible claim of normal complexity. I will do that work and produce a piece of writing probably between 3,000 and 5,000 words. At $.07/word, it would cost you $210-$350 total. An attorney will charge AT LEAST that much per hour. You could easily save up to 80%!

Please PM me if you are interested in seeing any samples of my legal writing. I would invite you to read them and decide whether you think I have a qualified legal mind. You are also free to show it to a personal friend who might recognize top-notch legal writing to find out whether he or she finds the sample to be quality work.

I can begin doing the research on December 14th and guarantee that the final writing will be sent by January 7th. Unfortunately, I can only offer legal writing for U.S. citizens and residents. Please feel free to ask general questions about my services in this thread. If you have a specific question, please PM me.

Good luck with the rest of Law School.

Before you do something silly for a couple bucks I would check the rules in your state. You seems to be crossing the line of offering legal services when you are not a lawyer. You should check with your state bar before embarking on this endeavor. It would be very sad to get a legal career started with a state bar violation.

On the other hand, maybe you just want to clean up your sales pitch to indicate that you are not offering legal advice.

    browntwn,

Thank you. This is certainly something to consider, and not something that I forgot about. I do understand the law as it applies to me, although your suggestion to clean up my sales pitch may not be a bad idea.

To be clear for those who might be interested: "Advice" may be an inappropriate term for me to use. I am able to offer an accurate picture of the law as it applies to your particular problem. I will accept payment in exchange for that accurate picture and, at that point, you and your attorney must use that information as you see fit.

Disclaimer: My original post has been edited to reflect my inappropriate use of the term "advice." I cannot edit the quote in browntwn's post, but please ignore it.

I am sure there are some people who could benefit from your help, but unfortunately not too many people here are keen on paying for legal help.

Yeah, maybe not. I'm just kind of testing the water. I can't start for a few weeks anyway, so I may look at other avenues for getting similar work in the meantime. But you're right, not a ton of interest so far.

    Wii,

I wouldn't say that I'm a complete idiot when it comes to stuff like this, but I would say that there are others on this board who are much more qualified in this area. However, if you would like to provide with more information on your particular issue, please send me a PM and I would be happy to do what I can to help you resolve it. Thanks.

BSauer, if you do have legal qualifications then there is definitely room for you to make money around here, but I think you'll have a tough time trying to sell your services out of the blue in your own thread. I suggest you hang around and get a word or two in when you see a scam occurring on this board (That shouldn't take too long). Myself, I've hired an I.P. lawyer in the local area for legal advice and it's definitely a valuable investment. I can't be the only one who wants to be legally prepared for anything that gets thrown at me in online business, so I wish you the best of luck in finding yourself some clients. Just make sure you're genuinely qualified as mentioned above ;)

He doesn't. He has opinions on law just like the rest of the people without a law degree. I have sneaking suspicion that if your law professors knew what you were doing they wouldn't be pleased.

I am curious BSauer...how many years have you attended law school? How many more years until you graduate and how many more till you can actually take the Bar Exam? What experience do you have in intellectual property law?
