I happened to find out this directory gtopdirs.com and it is a big surprise that it has a PR9.... I also checked its backlinks, just a few low quality ones. How can this directory manage to do that? Is it a new trick? The PR seems valid if using those fake pr detectors.
or probably a new domain just got lucky in the new PR update with ***** linking methods just look at the alexa
Interesting...searched the URL on Google and was led to this page...http://thevideokequeen.i.ph/blogs/thevideokequeen/?p=91 Check out the source code.
Same issue was for other directory I think to same owner fluser directory was PR 8. Now its PR 6 on the new google pagerank update.
I wonder how these people manage to get such high PR. I've done my hardest and I could not raise my directory's PR to anything beyond a 3.
XC06 - What's your point here? Do you always like to do this? It doesn't make sense to open a thread every time you find a PR 9 directory Every body here knows that PR is highly manipulative. There could be tons of reasons behind this. This site could have had a PR 10 link pointing to it before this PR update. Now the link might have disappeared. There could be 301 redirected domain pointing to this domain and what not. This list will go on and on. Seriously if you are "really" interested in doing research on this, I can send a list of hundred domains that have high Page Rank while no links pointing to them
A quick look at their content shows they are full of junk. Both directories (gtopdirs and fluser) are link farms. They masquerade as directories and use their PR to make money selling paid links to people. This is the exact thing that Google set out to destroy when it hit the directory industry hard in 2007. Sadly in the aftermath, these sorts of sites get away with it, for as long as they want. Whilst the good directories who play by the rules, lose out. It's sad, but that's how it goes, and this really is just the tip of the iceberg, there's thousands and thousands of websites across many industries doing exactly the same thing, selling paid links using high PR as the attraction, right under Google's nose, and nothing ever happens. The best thing you can do is just ignore it. The more things change, the more they stay the same
it could be a 301 redirect from another domains, not always the links gets indexed after redirect and being visble but yea it's really strange
The more we talk about these kind of directories, the more it spreads. A newbie who sees this thread will think "Oh, I can make money if I create a directory out of a high PR domain and sell any kind of links including junks". As Dan said it is better to ignore these stuffs.
This is part of the same crappy slew of domains/directories that used to be something else, gained their PR as another site, that are now used to doop unsuspecting ignorant SEO wannabes into spending money on air. Wasn't there another thread about this same person that's been touting these high PR directories as not being fake?
