Seems to be we are discussing permanent vs annual listings - I choose annual for all listings in my directory and charge a fee somewhat less than what a permanent listing in other sites would cost.

That way if a client is not happy with the service provided after one year they are not tied to me. Plus if I am not happy with having that listing on my site due to changes in it since the last review I am not tied to them. It is quality control for both sides. Reviewing the site annually keeps my directory free from spam.

I also would question the ethics of offering a permanent listing for someone who is a dp member vs only offering annual listings to someone who finds your directory by other means. Submissions from dp need monitoring for quality on an annual basis as much as any other site. Sites are bought and sold with content being changed on a daily basis. A site that is quality today may not be quality tomorrow.

There are also many business model reasons for going with annual reviews vs one time fees that you can read more about in an article on my site Different types of Directories

It is absolutely clear to anyone who knows anything about business that the best model for someone who wants to build a quality directory that is going to be around for years is to go with annual pricing. It is not something you can easily change to after you start the directory so it needs to be there from the beginning.

Dargre was nice enough to assist me by integrating and customizing his renewal mod to the needs of my site to aid in the annual review process and bring all listings up for renewal annually.

I understand that everyone has different goals, resources and reasons for building a directory so this might not be the way for you. But it is the way it is going to be at the Authority Directory for a very long time.

If you delete the expiry date(12 years) and leave it empty, it will be permanent without any expiry date there.
