PR6, 5, and 4 inbound links. But home page still PR3.

I count currently among the inbound links to my home page 5 links from PR6 pages, 4 from PR5 pages, and about 10 from PR4 pages. Yet my home page has a modest PR3.

Does this sound right? I should add that most of these good links were secured in the past month and may have MISSED the recent PR update. Should the links listed above give me optimism to hope for a PR increase whenever the next PR update comes along?

I know that PR is not everything. But I think I understand correctly that (whether justified or not) a higher PR does more strongly influence other sites to choose to link to you.

I have a lot of inbound links from PR5 and PR4 and my site is a PR4, with my deeper pages sitting at 2's and 3's. You may have missed the recent update, so keep building for the next one and you should be in good shape :D

It also has to do with how related the websites are. If a PR8 inbounds, but isn't related at all, it may only be counted as a PR3 or 4. You want sites sending inbound links that are very related to your site. It shows correct voting instead of just voting for whatever.

Agreed. My inbound links are from a related site, and that definitely makes a big difference. Make sure the links you have are related to your site, otherwise they most likely won't bring you any better results.

Got it. Thanks. I have a lot of links from directories. They do have a Category related to my site, and of course I'm linked from that category. Are those considered "related"?

They are consider related, but still if a lot of other links are found on the page linking to you, then it will probably count less

They may be considered related, but they aren't really 'targeted' contextual to how related. It would be better to get links from websites that have a lot of content and are focused on the same theme as you.

I would say that my experience confirms your statement. My best page, a PR4 inner page on the pro-life issue, has about ten quality links from specifically pro-life sites. Those few quality links, from sites exactly on target theme-wise, have made that inner page my highest-ranking page (including the home page).

It takes quite awhile for google to pick up back links regardless of the PR. You may want to make sure the pages your link is on, are in the google index. If the site is PR4 and your link is buried in the site, it is rather useless.
