Check the dropped domain list - justdropped.com/drops/101809org.html

Have you found huedt.org there?

I think if it were done the "old fashioned way" the page you referenced would likely still be available. The link was placed out of the content of the page like others including at least one placed in a division set to display:none.

So tell me, why would the Firat University link to anyone in a division across multiple pages of a subdomain that wasn't visible if they intended to link to them? Is this the "old fashioned way" of obtaining links?

    Creed,

The "old fashioned way" was referring to buying PR or by whatever means (bartering/etc), that link I refer to was displayed on the page in my browser on the bottom saying "web directory". The thread started with complaints that PR was due to a dropped domain. So I looked at why the PR was there and it apparently came from backlinks with higher PR and went through a goggle PR update. Also the backlinks referred to "web directory" not 'real estate'/etc or some other term that would refer to a dropped domain.

As far as high PR backlinks disappearing if that's indeed the case I'd assume PR would also disappear. If they were kept or bought others it would stay. Just really tired of newbs with virtually no idea about pagerank, which I'm sure you'd probably agree starts with them caring that much about it anyways.

I agree - the link was there; I'm just not so sure that this link or some of the others were knowingly placed there by the sites' admin/webmasters so I doubt the validity of those links.
