FULL BACKSTORY


My strategy for this site is simple. Build a general topic forum while purchasing large and small forums to merge with it making it bigger and building an even larger member base. I started the site back in April. I spent the first few months primarily developing the site. I used that time to develop categories based on niches I know can draw discussions and get traffic. I also built backlinks (all whitehat) and hired a few posters. In July I bought my first and only forum to merge with this site. The site had about 80k posts and was called minuscelsius.com. I merged it with CT and pointed the domain. I own that domain and it IS included in the sale.


I then listed it on Postloop and got some quality posters (all 4.5 and above). Don't worry, ALL paid posting throughout the entire history of the site only accounts for 2k of the posts.


TRAFFIC


Like I said, I built backlinks and did plenty on-site SEO to include installing vBSEO from the start. The site is a PR4 and ranks in the top 3 in Google for "chat forum" (12,00 exact searches/month) so between that and some long tail traffic it gets 100 uniques per day without lifting a finger. That will increase when it hits #1. I'll admit I barely even visit the site so the moderators and staff are pretty much on their own keeping it active. I have noticed though that a good way to boost traffic (since it's a PR4) is to simply look at Google Hot Trends and post a thread about whatever is trending today.


The site only made $5 last month (I'm not going to take a screenshot of $5) and that was with ONE Adsense unit at the top in the welcome box visible to GUESTS ONLY.

Why is this worth $1100? No revenue, only 11 active members in the last 24 hours, and 77% of the content is from a different forum. Am I missing something here?

 

Well, that's one of those tough to answer questions. Not because the answer is hard to find, but more because it's one of those questions that, if you have to ask, it's going to be tough trying to explain it to you. I know a lot of people here have built a forum from scratch to over 100k posts and understand how valuable a forum of that size is and I kind of didn't want to insult their intelligence explaining that. My apologies if that is an incorrect assumption about you though. You may simply be asking because though you've done it before, it's been so long you've forgotten how tough it is

So instead of going through all of that I'll itemize a few things here for you:

• You could buy a domain and have someone create you a custom logo for say $60 total. | Or you could just buy CrowdTopic.com.
• You could Purchase vBulletin Suite and vBSEO for $434 | Or you just buy CrowdTopic.com.
• You could buy an aged domain and throw paid links at it and do social bookmarking campaigns for $300 or more. | Or you could just buy PR4 CrowdTopic.com with a guaranteed minimum 100 u/v per day with no promotion.
• You could pay some people to post (say $200 budget just for starters), or beg friends to get even 11 active posters on your new forum with no posts | Or you could just buy CrowdTopic.com.

Those are just a few things to consider in helping you figure out a fair offer. This site is a PR4, all software licenses are included, few as they may be for now there are active posters and gains new ones every week, and a database of over 3k email addresses to notify when you add new features or launch contests.
