    I bougt 7 expired PR4 domains 2 months ago. 5 of them are still 5 after update 2 of them is PR3 . So this depends on your luck . I'm not a prophet. How will i predict it ? I only guarantee that they are valid and unregistered. Until now i didn't hear that someone have problem with domains.
    I have more domains now.

    you can also check manually.
    Write cache:http://www.DOMAINNAME.com
    if you see a page different than your domain. It's fake PR.

    I want to add something to this thread.
    Sometimes godaddy show expired domains are REGISTERED. Then people comes to me that why this domain is REGISTERED you told me it will be expired .
    So it's godaddy problem go and check yourself from other whois services
