I have make a post about PR10 pages last year. Here is the list Most sites are more than 10 years, they have enough quality back links and it is increasing. But many pages now are PR 9 or even less. Do you think google has a new rule about PageRank?
I belive they are getting more strict on PR. Because, getting links are easy so they must have been modifying their algorithm. I had few sites that I was expecting to get at least PR4, but they drop back to PR3. I had lots links for high PR sies also.
you can pay to get a link at phpbb or statcounter BTW, yahoo goes from 9 to 10. From this update, some high PR sites dropped, the largest directory dmoz always stays at 8. But some new sites which is online 1 month or 2 weeks would get PR5 or PR6, google may make fun of us.
I fell like a broken record, but I'll say it again - Google did a lot of work on SE spam with this past update. I was glad to see them listening to feedback.
Agreed. I am only speculating here, but I believe they started reading the posts on forums like this one and blogs across the eworld about "PR is meaningless" and wanted to bring it back a little. It used to mean almost everything. Then they cut the importance and made it too little of a factor. I believe they are "rightsizing" its role in SERPs and adjusting how it is calculated, thus a ton of sites made big moves in both directions of the PR spectrum. Rumor has it that they even commissioned Justin Timberlake to write a song for their next advertising campaign. Matt Cutts will be singing "I'm bringin' PR back - YA! Those other engines don't know how to act - YA!"
Most logical post I have read about PR on DP. Very well argumented and documented mate. Lots of people discard PR's importance on SERPs --but it is still a big deciding factor I was searching for a keyphrase 'Business Chats and Forums ' and was surprised to see lots of directories coming up with top 10 of results which definitely has more backlinks and thereby higher PR than business related forums. Please CHECK HERE I can see doomsday for those who discard importance of PR in SERPs.
Thank you for the kind words. It only makes sense -- why have PR if it means nothing? While it once was THE factor, they simply took too much of a chunk of its importance out to where PR 1 sites were beating PR 6 sites through anchor text and spammy content. Is it possible to get a spammy site into the 7+ PR range? Absolutely! But with the attention and constant indexing that a high PR site gets, it would be very quickly moved from PR 7 to PR "Grey Bar of Death."

I went from a pr7 to a 5....no grey bar...but pr has become tougher to get...You have to go completely BH to get delisted.. (usually)
