Hi everybody i was hoping somebody can help me.

I have a niche website and is highly active once a year for 35 days. It is an event which takes place world wide, but my website is based for UK visitors only, but it still attracts a large amount of US visitors.

I receive 3 to 5k unique hits per day and get lots of emails from people for various things.

My website is indexed like this, this isnt my website but just to show you what i mean when my site is well indexed:

Now i dont know how much to charge advertisers, Pay per click? Or impressions? Last time i charged somebody a lump sum of £70 for the entire 35 days for their logo and business to be advertised on all pages of the website.

I took on the cheap offer because the website was somewhat new and was PR1 but not indexed in sub catergories.. also at the time i only had a few sponsors.. so i took it on cheap as oppose to have nothing. This year its going to be even huge as i am indexed very well and have obtained niche information for not only Britain but also for Ireland now.

I know prices can vary for different sizes and so forth.. but can somebody give me a rough estimate for how much i can charge advertisers for a few days, weeks or maybe for the entire month on a few or on all pages.

The website has roughly upto 30 pages only.

Thanks and i look forward to your reply.

P.S: Sorry i cannot give out the website address for personal reasons. But the example and information is above. Cheers

Kayz, congrats on a popular site! :)

How many page views are you getting? That would be an important factor in determining CPM for a sitewide link.

Hi and thanks snowbird for your kind words. :D I have google analytics on one page only which is the front page. I checked the page views for last year and it was just over 6k for the month...

You need to take into consideration the following:

    • Bear in mind last year i was PR1 but not so indexed in sub catergories like my example above.
    • Also last year i had a google adwords competitor who paid to beat me for which he also took half of my hits. He still remains today bizarrely as its the quiet period now..,
    • Also the google analytics for 6k for that month took a handfull of pages into its statistics but not so much of the other pages bizzarely...

PR means nothing if you intend to sell your advertising space for traffic, which would work 35 days out of the year. What to do the other 330 days is a different story...

The $70 advertisement you had for 6,000 pageviews works out to $11.67 CPM. That's not bad at all.

The problem is your traffic is not sustained the rest of the year, which makes it more difficult to utilize CPM networks. You'll make more money selling advertising space on your own anyway. Get a good ad serving script/ad server, with stats, so that you and your advertisers can monitor ad campaigns. If you expect to make some big bucks, use a third party for stats.

Try to research your niche and locate sites that sell advertising space. Try to get an idea of what they charge for a text link, 125x125 box, 468x60 banner, etc. If they offer a media kit, request it so that you can get a complete breakdown of their prices. Convert their price differences into percentages and plug it into an equation using the $11.67 CPM you previously had as the constant. If nothing else, this might give you a baseline. If your ad prices appear high or low compared to the quality of your competitors, adjust accordingly.

I have a site where I get frequent E-mails from visitors with questions. Some of the E-mail's are regarding pricing. On my contact page, I have text noting that they can get detailed pricing information from a book at Amazon.com. You may want to consider this if your visitors are seeking information that can be monetized. It's not a great money maker for me, but it does make money while reducing the E-mails I have to answer.

Your ability to maximize revenue largely depends on your competition and the number of advertisers that want to be listed on your site. Do you have any advertisers interested now?

I see the £70 advertisement was throughout my entire site which consists of 30 or few more pages. From my analytics page i added up all the impressions which was generated from 6-7 pages only whereas i have 23 more extra or so pages that the ad was displayed on also.

However when i come to view the individual pages they also have been getting hits and it also displays the amount of clicks ive had on each section of the website etc.. its rather complicated but the 6k impressions were only from a few pages as oppose from the entire website.

No, as the website is only at its peak once a year for 35 odd or so days. But ive recently had the National Health Service contact me with regards to advertising health issues for the local communities that would come onto the website. I was in so much tatters that i think i scared them away.. maybe i got a bit too technical as oppose what to charge them.

But like you said i suppose i can see what other websites are charging based on their media kit and maybe devise up my own taking into consideration the amount of hits and so forth.

Why did you only have analytics on one page?
