PR without backlinks?

    Hey,

Is it possible to get a good PR without backlinks?

I've accidently created text rich pages with virtually no backlinks (they have about two) that have PR 4.

I'm now creating a new site that's going to contain a lot of content, but I'm interested in seeing how good a rank I can get without spending ages asking others for backlinks.

Has anyone else tried this before?

    Hi Magic Info,

The strategy I'm trying is to put a lot of text content on my site with internal linking between relevant pages.

The content is mostly being written by my brother or myself so it's all original.

I've given the site two external backlinks from my other sites to get it trawled by the search engines without the need for submissions, and have created an RSS feed and sitemap to give the search engines a helping hand.

    Good luck!

In short, No. Pagerank is transferred through linkage.

PageRank can only be acquired through links to your page. Read this article PageRank and how to get it: for a complete explanation.

As the articles says both internal and external links count towards PageRank. So the question is how many links are there to a page from all sources not just from external sources and pages.

For instance one of the reasons that home pages usually have a higher page rank than internal pages in a site is that there will be a link back to the home page from every page in the site. However this is not normally true for all the interior pages.

That is also one of the reasons why menu systems and internal navigation is important. It's prime purpose is to help visitors user the site, but another reason is to transfer PR efficiently.

Sorry but this is not true - it IS possible to get PR without backlinks. Equally so it is possible to remain a 0 with hundreds of backlinks if the content isn't there.

Even in the article quoted above the author admits his article is just an educated guess and also states "Nobody knows for sure how Google calculates PR"

What IS clear is that backlinks are PROBABLY the best way to get higher PR.

I have had a site or two get pr3 out of the gate with no backlinks...but how is it possible that Google found it without any back links...ahhhh something to ponder.

I do beleive that internal linking structure and content can contribute to a higher pr. JMO

I highly doubt that PR is ONLY gained by getting backlinks. It does seem to be a huge factor though depending on your site...on my new site I spent some time signing up for directories and improved the PR to 4 fairly quickly.

A listing in a directory is a backlink. Any link to the page, internal or external, is a backlink.

He knew it was a backlink; I think he was just showing backlinks can make your PR go up quicker.

Well.. google links are not related to PR in any way. I have a site which shows 9 backlinks in google and out of 9 links 8 are from my sites only. Not a single search engine shows all backlinks to your sites. It depends on serach engine how they treat each backlink..
