PR without backlinks?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by bob25, Sep 27, 2010.

I'm thinking of buying a PR4 domain, but Yahoo shows only 1 backlink. Is it possible to get PR just from the content?

I'm not asking if buying a PR site is a good idea or not, but whether you can get PR with just the content alone.

    Thanks

No you can only get a PR0 with just content alone and no links. I see these shady deals happening all the time. They sell a high PR site at an inflated price with only a few links. Once the sale happens they can then pull those links at any time and your PR will just drop. It might stay at a 1, but I don't think it would be any higher than that.

I disagree. I had a PR 2 with no links. The site was built, had great content, a week later the PR update happened, we were indexed at the time in order to get the the PR update. How do I know it did not have inbound links? I did all the link building months later.

Impossible. The only thing that determines PageRank is PageRank. Only, it can be the site has much different PR than what you see on the toolbar PR. This is not shown to us in real-time. To say a site has PR 2 with 0 back links would literally be impossible though. PageRank is derived completely from back links.. nothing else. It takes PR to get PR.

That's what I thought. But you could shout that to high heaven in the domain buying/selling forum and you wouldn't get heard :(

    Thanks

    Hi, bob25

One thing I would like to mention is some domain owners would perform 301 redirection temporarily(sounds weird :) ) from other sites they also own to the would-be sold domain and might be drop them totally after the domain was sold. :)

    all the best,

Are you absolutely sure you checked BOTH the www and non-www version of the domain at Yahoo!? You might have been looking at link:example.com and only seeing 1 link when if you would just look at link:www.example.com you might see more (or visa versa).

And also... have you ever heard of "fake" PR? I could 301 redirect another site with lots of inbound links to the site you're considereing buying. Once Google publishes a toolbar update with the site you're considering getting credit for the redirected site's inbound links, I could then drop the redirects. The search engines will transfer credit for those links back to the original site (because the 301 redirects no longer exist), yet the toolbar will continue to show PRX until the next PR update even though the site you're considering now has no known back links. Happens more than you might think when someone is considering selling a domain.

No it doesn't sound weird, that's what I used to try pointing out to the other domain buyers when there weren't many backlinks pointing to the site being sold. I once saw a PR4 that had no backlinks registered only a week earlier with barely any content. Just wondering if the content made a difference. I sometimes use it to redirect the PR and "trust" (age to a new site) and yeah it works.

    Thanks

Its a scam, stay away from it. I noticed most of these sales that have PR 4 with no real backlinks. Once you buy it, the PR will drop to zero a few days later.

Some popular website have a high PR without back links especially those online selling brands and also can increase their PR because of popularity. If your website is not popular and doesn't have back link as Natural Elements said it is difficult to get the PR.

page rank always required support of back links, so few but strong back link always there behind good page rank.

Page Rank can be gained by using your internal linking structure, PR4 with no external links is 99.9% fake though!
