Normally, the www.site.com and site.com are completely different urls. So, Google is completely right when treating them differently. You might get success with getting similar PR for both of them if you specify preferred alias in GWT for your site. Then, after some time, Google will glue your www.site and site pages together.

From the point of search engines, the URL with www and without www are two completely different URLs because they have different backlinks. As a result, they will have different PR.

It doesnt matter, just use the same all the time so it doesnt spread between the www and http.

Google considers both are as different urls. you can redirect the without www. url to www.yoursite.com. Keep in mind that when you do off page keep One URL Format for submission.

It really does not matter for search engines (when you use the same type consistently). For users its a different story, some user types like with www, some like without.

www.site.com and sit.com considered as two different URL, and therefore you will get different PR value.
Normally the SEO personal will set the redirect 301 site.com to www.site.com
