A nod to the song War by Norman Whitfield, originally performed by the Temptations. (I like the FGtH version myself) I was answering a question about the lagging visible PR update in another thread and as I was writing I thought to myself, "Why do people keep asking about PR?" I decided to put the question to you, the readers of Digital Point and to see what Google PageRank means to you and how you use it. ============================= I do not pay too much attention to PR anymore. Yes, I look forward to updates and always enjoy a PR upswing on my sites or my client's sites. While metrics like search query rank and visitor count is much more telling and immediate, seeing PR go up is like receiving a pat on the back or someone giving you a soda to say thanks. The most frequent use of PageRank in my work is to sort link prospects. When I look at groups of prospects I will sort them by PR and the number of incoming links. It gives me a priority for manual review and allows me to exclude many domains. Of course, if I see a 0 or low PR document with lots of inbound links I'll want to have a look too. So what do you use PR for?
Spider frequency. The higher the PR, the more content you get indexed. I add a lot of fresh, unique content, so this is very important to me.
accidentely a post on my blog appeared during reading this topic! Check here for the article where it tells you exactly why PR is so important. http://www.moneymakingsites.biz/200...tion-part-2-popularity-page-rank-or-pagerank/
Yep, good for selling Links & getting the spiders to index your new sites. In terms of affect on SERPS, PR doesn't matter. Link Love does
Ego boost is amazing. Love seeing that number go up. Sell some text links for some extra cash. More content gets rammed into the SE, which makes more top rankings on the SERPS, which gives me more cash because the site gets visited more frequently.
PR can be useful for SEO purpose if the website has some characteristic. If you reach a PR5 only linking your site from websites in your same language and with similar topics, your PR can be useful for ranking your pages, otherwise the only things you can do with an high PR are boost your ego and boost your money.
I think turfsniffer is honest. (That is the primary goal) And if you run a Directory, you will get more submissions if you have high PR. And good sites will add reciprocal to your site. Lot of good stuff with good PR. my $0.02 Thanks
PR is useful for frequency of crawling i guess, so if you put a link in a high PR page, it will get indexed quicker
