PR is updated continuously. It's just that, the info is released (also named pagerank export) to the general public (toolbarqueries DC), only once every 3 months or so.
hi, according to forum discussions the page rank update is on the way but so far i have not got any glimps of it
This may be a stupid question, but how do you know when it happens? Also - what is the "big daddy" thing you are referring to?
Instead of threads like this with people you've never heard of asking "when is the next PR update?" you will suddenly see pages and pages of posts by people who've been here for a while talking about public PR changes with examples. Of course, even then it's largely a waste of time because when the public PR update happens, all it's doing is telling you about changes that have been in effect for some time, probably as long as since the last public PR update, so it's effect on your Google rankings or traffic is nil. Matt Cutts: What's an update? September 8, 2005 That is the name given to the last real Google update, which was described by Cutts as an infrastructure update but which may have been broader than that.
yeeeeeah but isn't it the first time the public is seeing those changes even if they have been in effect for some time?
Not really. If you check your own SE rankings and traffic reports with any regularity, you've already seen all the important data. PR is only "one of more than 100 factors" to begin with and Toolbar PR is only an approximate graphical representation of that to begin with.
well another PR question...my blog is been up since march...but the PR is not updated yet...any idea??? URL: www.techtickerblog.com
When toolbar PR updates, it doesn't update to the day that happens - it's usually reflecting the status from a couple of weeks or so earlier. You mau have simply missed the cutoff, or it may be that you hadn't been fully indexed by that point.
I thought we were talking about pagerank here. You mean to tell me if I check my SE rankings and traffic reports I have seen my next pagerank for the next update? And even if it has been in effect for quite some time, it still hasn't been released to the public. And instead of checking se rankings and traffic reports for every site that I see, I find it more convenient to look at my google toolbar to see its pr.
It may be more convenient but 1. it's only approximately accurate for about 3 or 4 days a year, give or take; and 2. it plays only a small role in your Google rankings and an even smaller one in how much traffic you get Ask yourself this: Is your goal to push that green bar as high as it will go? Or is it to get as many visitors as possible to come to your site and hang around long enough to buy something?
obviously the second one...there anre many people that don't care about PR...let's be sincere normal users don't have google toolbar to check pagerank and don't really caer about it..
So what exactly is the point of even having PR, and why do so many sites require it when exchanging links if your PR value has nothing to do with rankings? im beginning to wonder. I stopped requiring a PR for link exchanges for my sites (1 PR5's and 3 4's) so basically anyone with a related website can put their link up. It has to be related tho. and doing this hasn't increased or decreased my pr. I started doing this last summer.
I didn't say "nothing" - I said "it plays only a small role". However, you're correct: Nobody should be using PR to evaluate a site for anything of importance. In my opinion, anyone using Toolbar PR as the basis for decisions on whether to link with a site, whether to purchase a site, or how much a site is worth doesn't know what s/he's doing.
What is it when your backlinks are updated? It that part of the tool bar update? When you say PR is constantly being updated do you mean it is constantly looking at the criteria but not actually updating the PR we see when we do a lookup?
