If I increased my backlinks substantially over the next few days will it have a significant impact on my PR ranking for the upcoming re-rank?

Yes, you stand a good chance. And if not now, certainly in the next update.

    No.

The TBPR is just a snapshot of some point in the past and it's not an indicator of where your site was just before the update.

As I posted on another thread, the backlink update was not a snapshot. It showed links from the day before the update happened.

I also posted about how I had a couple PR7s going into the last PR update, google showed a 5, I removed the links thinking I was secure, and within a few days dropped to 4.

So, I believe the snapshot is a thing of the past, if it ever even existed. I think it is still possible to make gains, even during the PR update (which fluctuated for about 2 weeks last time). It is most definitely possible to make losses.

It doesn't matter that you missed out this time round with the back links. Building back links is an ongoing job and it should have a major effect on your site at the next up date if you keep building quality links.

It depends really. It depends on when this 'snapshot' date actually is and we'll only know that once the next lot of PR data has been exported.

I reckon this depends on how bigger site and high PR is on the site with how much traffic it gets from Google.

This you will need to spend money on.

Even if you get a bunch of backlinks in the next few days, Google won't find all of those backlinks immediately. It will take a little time for Google to find all of the new backlinks with it's spiders. I wouldn't expect many if any to help you in this update, but it will give Google plenty of time to find them and have them help you for the next update.

Keep working on increasing your backlinks, it will continue to pay off over time.

You'll get the result in the next update, but still you can have the try with quality and selective links :)

Just keep on building links. Maybe you will benefit from this PR update, maybe on the next.
Keep doing quality linkbuilding and you will not lose in the long run.
