I also believe that they made a script or something that detects inner
categories or that it is a directory in the first place...

    thx

Best of the Web. http://www.botw.org PR6

Lot more bang for the buck than Yahoo. About $70 vs $300+. The BOTW Blog Dir http://blogs.botw.org/ carries a PR6 also. May be a good port in this particular storm.

Nope, I think they just play by Google's rules which is what they should be doing. Wish they wouldn't claim to be the webs oldest directory though, they were just an award site until 3-4 years ago.

Sorry, old habit, I use too many analogies. My apologies.:)

By saying they "may be a port in this storm" i didnt intend an insult to botw, i meant maybe they can help the webmasters google's new algorithm just whacked. A listing there may prop some sagging PR.

Like Anon suggested, now the hunt will start on the authority directories rather than the high PR directoroes ;)

anyways one of my directory jumped from pr0 to 2 & the other remained at Pr3.

Jamie, I didnt address it since this is a forum about directories, but fwiw the recent Google change slashed my Real Estate site. Not pertinent here, but at least you know they aren't just slamming directories.

Having now gotten hit harder than I can ignore I've got some eyes on mine now, SEO types checking to see which sites of similar nature didn't bleed out on this run, checking to see where they differ in approach. Firefox has a couple of cool tool add-ons for comparing sites... SEO Quake and Niche Watch for starters. We're making some changes... good luck to you guys on yours as well. :)

It is relevant because you suggest that it isn't only directories that are subject to the wrath of Google? That would be great news for all of us but we would need more than the odd 'other type' site to come to the conclusion that it isn't just directories that are getting hammered.

I have non directiry sites that have lost inner PR, so not just a directory problem.

    Thanks Brian

Yeah. i think its a supplemental style issue, where pages look similar due to lack of unique content. Directory categories make a perfect example of this.

The flip side of this is that sites that weren't relying too much on directories or other techniques to inflate they're rankings have moved up nicely. One site that is near and dear to me moved up 20 to 30 spots (into top 10) on some nice keywords in Google. It got there with a little bit of on page SEO, some 301s, and recent links from CNN.com, Forbes.com, and a few others recently. :D

all my directories sustained their PR but.. no inner PR...
It is strange because Lola directory is still PR6 all the keywords have no pr now, but the blog has PR5...
But apart of that things as usual - I still get lots of traffic from Google

Google is willy nilly f'ing up their bread and butter PageRank algos. Soon, PR will be worth less than sh!t and Google may find new competitors as they scramble to get 60% revenue increase again in 2008. They are finally a victim of their own success and will soon be running like mad from Wall Street and the stock analysts who expect at least a 50% revenue increase again this year. Run you corporate Googlots, RUN! LOL....

Anybody seen directories getting PR back this week? Could be a glitch with Google or who knows???
