What does everyone recommend for min. ranking to be worth posting in that directory? 5 or 6?

I dont really look for a ranking as they all have to start somewhere, if their pr is 0, thats fine by me, they may grow to be one of the biggest and best, get in when their offering those free submissions, i never turn my nose up at another link back to my sites and blogs.

Unless your talking of a payed submission of course, then i can understand your concern of pr, their pr could always go down though too.

if its free then just submit, even if it is ZERO, you want to get in early in free directories so you can secure you spot on page one and get top exposure and PR

If its paid, PR is not the only thing to consider. Look into backlinks, traffic, and how much the owener is promoting, and how many links are in the category your submitting 2. Also don't look at the PR of the hompage, rather the PR of the specific page your submiiting 2.

    In My Opinion

A PR 4 link for $5 is a great deal
A PR 5 link for $10 is a great deal
A PR 6 link for $20 is a great deal

PageRank isn't always showing as accurate ... as people may continually be working on their linkbuilding so in the long term, they will rise in pagerank.

The length of time the link has been in place is one of the many factors in what weight goes towards the link as well, so even if PR0, then 1yr from now if you had 100 PR 0 sites initially, they could be PR3 sites.

It is an ongoing process - some dont increase, some decrease, some disappear, etc etc

yeah... for permanent links its nothing to lose, cause PR0 will get higher sometime...
I'd be concerned only if unwanted links are listed where I have my backlink.

We agree with the comments too, and we also say that directories who control the sites that are listed, in the short/medium & long term prove a good place to be listed on.

As we have some free sites that we operate and many of links are a mixture of sites, many of which do not stay around for a long time so in that instance you have to keep verifying the links to see that they are online

We think the values that william104 refers to are around the benchmark for sites with those page rankings

If I think a directory has potential, I don't focus on the PR...

I started a database, http://www.exploringnature.com and it was a PR 0 and now it is a PR 2 and growing. I agree that it doesnt matter the PR when you post because the directories will grow and grow and some will increase their PR along the way...
