PR Ranking Changed!

    Forgive the newbie question.

I just bought a domain off ebay (only $2.00).

When it was up for auction, the PR Rank was a THREE.
I used three different sites to validate the PR of the claim.
    All checked out.

One week later - its now a ZERO.

And the guy has 99% feeback..

How does this happen???? Can anyone assist?

Well it could have been an expired domain. Google tends to reset the PR on most of these domains nowadays.

I purchased it because I did my own checking, and it was a PR3 up until 2hrs before the auction ended.

Now that it is trans. to me - it's Zero.

When does PR update? How often?

    Thanks

    i suspect what happened is:

    1. it really had a tolbar pr of 3 when you bought it
    2. however, google was going to downgrade the toolbar for the site (for whatever reason)
    3. after you bought the site, there was a toolbar pr update
    4. the new toolbar pr is now 0

What is a toolbar PR - how does this differ for "another" PR?

I feel ripped (not that there was a financial burden - just principle)

you should not have purchased a $2 domain for it's PR value

how about telling us which three pr checkers did you use? A lot of pr checkers show inaccurate data

That is plain BS. You can't get your money back as he told the truth.

I purchased 5 domains. Ranging from PR3 to PR6. After the recent updates they have been become PR0 to PR4.

I don't think the seller is at fault all. You can't buy domains for PR as they change every couple of months.

    When do PRs change?

What is the best site to check for accurate PR?

    Thanks

seochat.com has good resources for pagerank check.

Also, PR prediction or when the update occurs is almost impossible to predict. Google is secretive about almost everything they do.

However, I am almost certain it occurs every 60-90 days. Sometimes there are 2 updates within that timeframe. But that is rare.

NEVER buy a domain for PR, unless it is an old domain (over 4 yrs) and has good back linking. But in those cases, it will not sell for $2.

Well aged domains cost over 15 bucks and if they have backlinking and decent PR (3,4), they will be close to 50 bucks. If the PR is 5 or above, it will cost over 100 to get a decent domain.

That's the reason you have to see how mature the name is, the quality of the backlinks, the content of the previous site and much more. To keep the old PR is not easy. Even if Google dances the PR may shake but it will restore his PR pretty soon

The price for real PR names is higher than $50

If you calculate that a paid links costs in average $60 per month in PR4/PR5 sites then you understand that taking 1 valid domain name you can save a lot or even better start renting links to others

It's impossible to lose the fake PR that quickly.
