PR question...

How is it possible to build links and work on SEO for website pages for an entire year and then after the Google PR update it says "No PR information"?

The pages are #1-#10 for 30,000,000+ search terms on google! It just seems like there is a lack of consistency with this whole PR thing...

    any thoughts?

I'm not sure I understand exactly what are you trying to ask, but why do you care about PR if you rank so well? Ranking well means you are not banned, not even penalized and above all, means traffic.

Do not worry about Pr worry about where site is listed for keywords. If your site is listed high for your keywords be happy.

It doesn't seem likely that after a year a site with a few backlinks wouldn't gain at least SOME page rank. Especially one that is able to rank.

However, I agree that unless you are looking to sell links, PR should be virtually irrelevant. PR has little to do with your ability to rank although PR will increase with backlinks - and increased backlinks generally result in higher rankings. However your higher rankings aren't being caused by the higher PR. It's just that both higher rankings and higher PR are generally results from the same cause - more backlinks.

Plus, if you have a site that ranks well for your desired keywords, I certainly wouldn't be going out an selling junky text links on it. So, for that reason I say that PR is irrelevant for quality sites that rank. If you want to sell links, build PR on a page that doesn't rank.

It seems that you are ranking pretty well for the site :) Your page may have a real time PR of ore than 0 but just that Google has not pushed out the update to the public yet..

For PR you need to take backlinks by Reciprocal, 3-way links, on-way links. But if you are interested on High SERP then make focus on ONE-way links from relevent category, relevent page

Simply put, you can't. Google is always updating its internal ranking of sites but only publishes updates to the public at certain times.
