PR is not important? Well, can be.

About ranking in SERPS, I have seen no prove in more than one year that PR is important, and if really PR is important, then think Google updates PR internally almost every day, so PR's toolbar is useless.

I also managed to get severals PR7 links and my rankings haven't been modified. The true link is the one coming from a related-content website, with text around. That's really the way you will SEO your websites.

But PR can be also important. Lots os webmasters think PR is important, and when you wanna sell/buy/exhange links then most people only sees PR.

PR is important, it tells me that my site is popular and therefore that I am doing something right.
But PR is not the _most_ important; it is one of the many tools that I use to ensure that my sites are visited.

PR tells you how many links your site got. However not all links are considered for the serps, only those that google considers relevent for a certain query are taken into account. However Higher PR is still good since the fraction of the relevent links is most likely higher

PR was created to divert the attention of the SEO community to worrying about a useless number instead of focusing on SEO.

Assume PR did not exist, what will you or other webmasters do that they are not doing right now. Is PR preventing us to do something that I missed?

I dont take much notice of it. I do like to look ocasionaly but trafic is the most important thing.

Like what was said earlier you can have a website with a pr0 appear in the top 10 and one with a pr4 appear 5 pages deep.

As long as your getting traffic its not so important

I think what is important to remember is that, it does not matter what the PR is, if it doesn't get traffic. PR is only Googles idea of a popularity rating. It doesn't give it out based on traffic, only by links. If those links are not generating traffic, then the PR was useless. Grandma use to say "The proof is in the pudding."

If PR isn't important then why would Google be concerned about blocking the pr passage from link sales and encouraging those who sell links for traffic to use no follow?

That's about the dumbest thing I heard about PR

G wants you to make it easier for them to find your pages for relevant terms; hence there is no reason for them to divert you from focusing on [ethical] SEO

PRwas very important in the early age of the google, but the importance decreased when people cheated.
