Hi guys, A general question...Is PR actually important for SERPS? Everyone seems obsessed about high PR and getting links from high PR sites...But if I do searches for some competitive keywords...It is often the lower PR sites which rank better? Should I not focus on the number of links? Thanks Adam
For ranking high in the search engines you want to get high, quality links, try and get some with PR. The key to getting a good SERP is the number of links so yes focus on the link building. Many people are obsessed with high PR because they can sell links, blog posts etc on their sites and make some good money.
Focus on building a quality site which Google can trust then you'll rank high. If you have that kind of website, then even new pages will rank well. Take a look at BBC News. OK, the site has been around a long time but check out how quickly it ranks well even for new stories, because it's a site trusted by Google. Be careful with link build. Think about ways to get a quality backlink, maybe on a popular blog or news site, for your niche rather than spending time getting 10 useless links. For example, if your niche is tech related then getting a mention on www.theregister.co.uk would do you no harm whatsoever!
Simple to answer this one, Pagerank is a secondary factor when it comes to search results. Pagerank is used to give value to a specific web page (not an entire site). Now, these values can be used when determining which site in search results has the higher quality backlinks, but don't forget beyond backlinks many other factors are used to determine search results. Your best bet is to try and gain quality relevant backlinks to boost your SERPs, your Pagerank will naturally rise. Also, quality unique content is a great way to build links since the more useful the content the more likely visitors are to link back to it at an external source.
It means very little in the SERPs. Here is a good article that explains the Importance of Google PR. Basically selling advertising is the main use of PR.
PR is good tool for link exchange, link seller and buyers. For ranking better get links from quality relevant site.
PR is very important but it is used to order the results. Before to be ordered, the results have to be built, and RELEVANCE is the key. Trust is also important, maybe more important than PR, but after trust, comes the PR. Since PR comes with backlinks you have just to please to your readers and specially those that are webmasters!
I agree with SubmitShop, pr is only good for people who buy and trade links. If you are trying to improve your serp you should forget about pr and build high quality relevant links. If you are trying to improve your pr you should try to get backlinks from websites with a high pr.
Don't worry about PR. It is nice to see the green bar increase but I would work on Links and content.
It depends on the kind of buisness/website you're operating. My webpage doesn't really utilize google (I havn't even submitted my site to dmoz), so getting google results is more of a pat on the back. so PR is nice, but it's not necessary
PR is not important as SERP, if you want to increase your SERP you have start building relevant links for your site.
Not true. I don't sell or buy links, but PR is still very important to me. But yes it is a fact that not only PR determines Serp results. If you have a good quality site then PR will come to you automatically cause people will link you voluntarily. Remember what google told you, ..."Make a website for the people who visits you, and not for the search engines''... just follow that and everything will fall in the right place for you. Best of luck.
Number of links means diddly.. I can beat most sites rankings with a Yahoo directory link and a few others from highly relevant websites and paid directories. As with anything in life Quality over Quantity...................
PR = Useless because google just went against their own guidelines from just a year ago when they looked at just backlinks - now they penalize sites that sell links lol just work on your backlinks - SERPs change more often than PR so they are not related
Simply NO PR is worthless is just a number High pr doesn't mean high Rankings High Rankings can mean high PR (usualy top sites have backlinks but not only backlinks get top serpos others factors like Content age are involved)
Concentrate on getting quality relevant back links and your search result ranking will improve for sure.
