If one is taking about links sell/buy economy, PR is crucial thing. But the point is that it could be used for other purposes not related to blackhat SEO.

Well, website PR is important only for Google and those who use the Search engines... which means for the majority of the consumers and site owners. But if any website is well ranked in Google because of its organic SEO, it is also ranked high in other search engines.
PR is not everything but at least it can be a good indicator of the quality of each site, at least from GG perspective.
Alexa shows the size of site's audience. Isn't it important, when you purchase a top banner on that size, for example?
PR means nothing i still can't believe people pay $100's per month on links that are PR 6 and above it does nothing as for results. You can be #1 on google with a PR 1 all that really matters is if you have links coming sites that are related to your own website. I see websites that have PR 6 but they are geting 0 traffic except for people seeking links from them. Why no toolbar is needed if you are seeking links from a related site you can check the back links very easily and be able to determine if the website is legit. Did you know google removed page rank from webmaster tools today? No they won't take it off the tool bar because that is there branding nobody would use the bar if they removed the Page Rank from the bar.
