I have two sites that I switched to a new host the past month. Both sites are now greyed out, not even a zero for PR. One was originally a PR0 but the other was a PR4. The only changes made were switching to a new web host. Would this cause a ban by google? I'm not too worried about the PR0 site, but the PR4 one causes me concern, I don't know if I should continue using this host or not.
If you're on the same URL switching host shouldn't be a problem - it is backlinks that count after all. You certainly wouldn't be penalised by Google for switching. The PR export is still rumbling on at the moment so that might explain why your PR values are different to expected. Expect a lot of PR fluctuation over the next couple of weeks.
Your sites should be fine. Update will look at sites and make sure nothing has changed after move. I think google looks at sites when ever they move host or change owners to make sure they are same website.
Ok, thanks for the information. I'll give it a few weeks to sort itself out then. I just don't like the idea of visitors coming to the site and seeing a greyed out bar, they may think I've been banned for doing something against google TOS.
I think Althema means the PageRank bar is greyed out with the mouse-over message 'No PageRank Information Available'.
it's nothign about changing host. your site might be dropped in PR or SERPs for a while till google crawl your website and backlinks again. make sure you have sitemap in new site and make sure your backlinks still points to new site.
unless you have a site that caters to webmasters and SEO experts....the general internet population could care less about PR...I certainly don't
