Well I finally got some page rank today. My site went up from 0 to 2. (My backlinks doubled too from 9 to 19 so they must update these things all at once.) So I went on my site to see if any of my secondary pages got page rank. There were lots of 0's and a couple of 1's which is what I expected... but then a few pages had a PR of 3. Has anyone else ever had a secondary page with a higher PR than the main page? a few of my PR3 pages have their own backlinks but not nearly as many as the main page so I'm confused. A glitch maybe? Or maybe google is still in the process of updating?
It happened with me two my site index page got PR2 where its inner pages improved to PR3 from PR0,i wonder as its amazing.
If you get a few high quality backlinks to your sub-pages, your sub-pages may end up with a higher pr than your main page.
As kingofsanda said, if the quality of backlinks to that particular page is better then yes it will gain a better page rank. Also to take into effect is the "PR Flow" Of your website. As in if your main page is linking to your subpage. But your subpage isnt linking back. Making your main page pass on a PR link to the subpage. But not the other way around. Remember its Pagerank not "Siterank" So even your own pages within your site linking there count.
Dont wory, its normal, actualy our main page not change as inner pages, and google loves to be updated. Btw, me also got pr subdomain and inner pages but not home page.
I just did a page-by-page PageRank analysis of my site. It wasn't very hard since I only have 31 pages. Here's what I found: -PR0 (or n/a) pages: Without fail, no backlinks on any of these. -PR1 page: Has 2 backlinks from my own site and 2 from a PR6 forum. -PR2 page: One of these has a single backlink from a PR1 page on my own site. The other has 2 from PR0 pages on my own site. (really doesn't make sense when compared to my PR1 page above.) -PR3 pages: 5 of these and all of them have exactly 6 backlinks from my own site and anywhere from 0-3 backlinks from other sites. -My main page: PR2 and has 19 backlinks, including 5 from my own site. I don't really get it. I'm not complaining but I'm not sure why internal links seem to generate PR especially when those links are from PR0 pages. I also don't get why my main page has a lower PR than some of my secondary pages. All things being equal I would expect it to be one notch above my secondary pages but all things aren't equal- it has more than double the backlinks of any other page. Maybe as peoplesarcade says, it has to do with "PR flow." All 5 of my PR 3 pages are directly accessed from my main page while my 0-2 PR pages all require 2 clicks... so there's clearly something to that. Every single page on my site, however, has 2 links back to my main page so I would think there would be lots of juice flowing back. Maybe that juice flowing back gets averaged out between 0-3 PR pages? But one of my PR3 pages has 6 backlinks, all internal and all from PR0 pages, so that doesn't make any sense. Has anyone else done a similar page by page study?
Hey David saw your post on the other thread thought I would elaborate on my linking structure. Firstly I never link to another page from within my site twice from any one page, except my main pages such as Contact Us Sitemap etc which in this case I use the nofollow tag to void the second link, I credit reading wikipedia as it showed me a few tricks on internal linking. Also I use sitemaps, alot of sitemaps I have 9 of them for my main site. all handmade no software used. Also my linking structure is very easy to crawl I use no images for links or any kind of linking ways just pure text links. There is more but I'm not going to go into a super long detailed post I should draw a diagram also it's New Years eve and the alcohol awaits . I also wanted to comment on your last post, it's not uncommon for inner pages to outrank the main page it happens quite a bit with blogs I find, from the information you posted I can't really say why it happened to your site but I would say peoplesarcade has a pretty good theory. Anyways If you have more questions send me a pm I'd be more then glad to give you some pointers. Ciao
One of my sites stayed at a PR2 but an inner page went from a 2 to a PR3. This was expected though since that is the most popular page on my site.
Hmmmm... I know on other forums that i have been to. They have tried to disrupt the flow by making all links going AWAY from the homepage a no follow. And all links from pages back to the homepage a do follow. But there is something with matt cutts saying that people were better off just trying to get quality backlinks then trying to manipulate the flow of the PR. Which is true, in the time it takes to work it all out, And then change things to no follow etc. You mayaswell have just got a few backlinks more to compensate.
I've seen the similar condition happening to mine. But the thing is that one of the inner page does not even have backlinks pointing to it and yet it has higher PR compared to the main page. I'm not what is the main reason, but definitely they have changed their algo or something.
Thanks SBC! I'm breaking a couple of your rules. First off, almost all of my links are images- I always use keywords in my alt tags though- so I hope that works as well as text links. Secondly, Each of my pages has two links to my home page and I didn't use nofollow on either. I'll have to see if I can figure out nofollow in yahoo sitebuilder- it might not be an option. what's the reason for no duplicate links? I couldn't find it on wikipedia. thanks again.
Just discovered a PR6 site with PR5 sub-pages. But one of its Mirror page (also sub-page) with no backlinks (link: operator) is PR8 So strange things happen with Google update, nothing new.
It's not an article on wikipedia it's just the way they structure their links and we all know how well they rank for their insane linking structure, always look at the best and learn
